Declaration Essence

It's a good scent but isn't for everyone and certainly not for me (I prefer sweet/warm/girly scents). It's a feminine scent with a hint androgynous vibes.

Also enjoyed by women? Not so much. My girlfriends and I didn't like this one at all. Nor did my husband for that matter. If you are a woman that isn't comfortable wearing masculine colognes than this isn't for you. My husband wasn't especially helpful with his feedback, he just said "yeah it smells like cologne." I guess what he means is it isn't memorable... and for the price tag it really needs to be.

Lovely Scent

This is a really nice unisex fragrance. The bergamot and bitter orange really stand out and the earthy notes give it depth. Declaration is very light on the patchouli. Sometimes patchouli drowns out my enjoyment of a fragrance, but not in this case. A really beautiful scent, though it doesn't last long on my skin.

Can't go wrong w Cartier

I love wearing Cartier's men's fragrances,and I'm a woman. I think they're fresh and neutral enough that they aren't overly masculine. This one in particular you can really smell the bergamot and I pick up cedar wood too.

like spraying $80 water

Like many women, I discovered Declaration via a free sample. It wasn't instant love - at first I thought it was too musky, but the scent turned into a wonderful peppery smell that definitely felt feminine. I was surprised when I read it was a cologne for me. I ordered it for myself anyway because I was in love. I don't usually write reviews. I've been a sephora addict for a verrrry long time now. This is the first review I felt compelled to write - mainly because I'm completely confused. Is the liquid in samples stronger or more concentrated than the $80 bottle? Is the cologne in the bottle somehow watered down? Within 3 hours of getting my bottle, I sprayed a third of it on my flesh/clothes/hair. Again and again. Because literally within minutes of spraying, the scent just disappeared. My husband couldn't believe how much I was dousing myself, and you couldn't even get a trace of it after minutes of applying. This was within days of falling in love with the sample (which also didn't have great staying power, but at least it stuck around for a couple hours...). Very disappointed. Can you just replace my $80 bottle with a few more samples?

How can I explain this...?

I am a woman. Declaration Essence is average. Nice bottle, but nothing special. Is not horrible or bad, it is just "blah". Actually, it is a very unisex scent. I do not like it for men. It is better for women, it does have a fresh smell, that does not say anything at all. My husband did not like it at all. . It smells good on me, just "ok". It doesn't smell sexy or refined. Very simple cologne.

I love it!

I got this as a sample and I agree...it smelled strange. Very peppery. I sprayed it on my skin next and it developed into a very warm, clean and woodsy smell. I don't think it's for everyone, but if you can pull it off, it's magnificent! I've never shared it with my husband because I love it too much! It's very unique. I bought the biggest size they make and it's worth every penny.

Not good

I received a free sample of this and I actually thought it smelled nice... However after purchasing this for my boyfriend and he put some on, it did NOT smell like the sample. It is awful! I put it in too thinking it might smell different on me, but it did not. It smells like cedar wood, heavy musk, and something foul...Yuck! Really disappointed because it was not cheap.

Didn't know this was mens cologne

I received this sample I just threw it in my purse. When i was out and about and sprayed it for the first time i thought it was okay nothing special. It has that cologne (unisex) smell like Burberry or Calvin Klein. I didnt know it was for men. Ill purchase the travel size for on the go for a quick refresher, not worth full size.

This is what "nasty" must smell like.

I got this as a sample. I put some on my wrists. Within moments, I started wondering what that awful stench was. I sniffed my wrists and was assailed by the most God-awful smell I've ever smelled, and I work in a school, teaching sixth graders. Who go to gym every day. At nine AM. This perfume smells EXACTLY like my classroom does on a 100 degree day, twenty minutes after the kids have come back to the classroom from gym. I thought, maybe the dress down would be better, but no. It got even worse. My aide wondered what had died in our classroom and thought it was the guinea pig. I just nodded and went with it, because I knew it was me. I wouldn't even buy this as a gag gift, although it made me gag.

BOO and WOW

Wear this in the day time and the scent wont last but at night it holds its ground very good. Wear this at night and it'll get you out of the "friend zone" in no time. This is what hot guys smell llike.

This is NOT the one I wanted....

Why does Cartier have ONE name for 3 different scents? I've ordered the wrong one, after falling in love with a Declaration sample. $100...really Cartier, can't you find different names for the different scents?
